LAHORE, Nov 6: The Punjab Environment Protection Tribunal has issued notices to developers of six housing societies of Rawalpindi-Islamabad for violation of environment laws.
Complainant Eco Watch Trust vice-chairman Salman Shariq Butt submitted that the Khayaban-i-Kashmir, Aghosh and Margalla View housing societies had launched their schemes on agricultural land without proper environment impact assessment.
The schemes had also been launched without the approval of the CDA, and deforestation expected to be caused as a result of development was likely to result in destruction of the natural habitat.
Counsel submitted that violation of environment laws had been brought to the notice of the developers, but they had not bothered to take any remedial measure.
