HYDERABAD, Nov 1: Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz chairman Shafi Mohammad Burfat has stressed the need for forming an alliance on issues of Sindh such as expulsion of outsiders from the province, retrieval of mineral and other resources of the province, struggle against the Kalabagh dam project and release of political prisoners.
In a statement faxed to Dawn by a party spokesman here on Tuesday, Mr Burfat said sincere and genuine leaders of Sindh should consider the proposal of a national alliance seriously. It would be a step in the right direction if the alliance was to keep away from election and constitutional issues, he added.
He urged Sindh National Party chairman Amir Bhambro to take initiative on the issue and try to contact all political leaders in the larger interest of Sindh.
The JSMM chief, who himself is a fugitive from law, said he could not come out in the open and meet nationalist leaders but his party would fully cooperate in furtherance of this objective.
He nominated the imprisoned leader of his party, Syed Asghar Shah, Sikandar Soomro, Mazhar Bhatti, Mansoor Mari and Sanaullah, to hold a dialogue with nationalist leaders on the subject.
He asked Mr Bhambro and others to meet Asghar Shah in the Hyderabad Central Jail to discuss the matter.
BOOK PUBLISHED: The first volume of a book by Awami Tehrik chief and writer and intellectual Rasool Bux Palijo spread over 7,000 pages has been published.
The book contains political articles and writings on varied subjects, said a spokesman for the AT.
HESCO: A vigilance team of Hesco, led by the in-charge, Khuda-ki-Basti, Kotri, Waseem Korai, on Monday detected several illegal power connections and asked police to register FIRs against the consumers.
The accused included Shakeel Ahmad of Bihar Colony, Rafiq Ahmed and Manzoor Ahmad of Khurshid Colony, Feroze Ahmad of Khuda-ki-Basti and Irshad Ahmad of Bhittai Colony.
REMOVED: A lecturer of the dental department, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Dr Musarrat Abro, has been removed from the additional charge of the chairman of the university residential colony under orders of the Sindh governor.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, a spokesman for the university said senior professors were conducting an inquiry against Dr Abro. He, however, made it clear that she had not been removed from the post of lecturer.
He further said allegations levelled by Dr Abro against university registrar Dr Afzal Memon were baseless.
The spokesman accused Dr Musarrat of polluting the university atmosphere and added that Imran Baloch had been given the additional charge of the chairman of the residential colony.
