PESHAWAR, Nov 1: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has said that federal and provincial governments will jointly carry out mega-projects in the city. Talking to Peshawar District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali here on Tuesday, the governor said it was beyond the resources of the district government to complete big projects in the city.

He identified the Warsak Dam water project, construction of underpasses on Grand Trunk Road from Chughulpura to Hayatabad and sewerage project to be completed in Peshawar through joint efforts of the federal, provincial and district governments.

He said the Warsak Dam project had been approved by President General Pervez Musharraf.

Referring to the president’s plan of providing clean drinking water to all by 2007, the governor said he would strive to get financial help and support from the centre as well as donor agencies for completion of the project.

He asked the nazim to prepare a feasibility plan to put a sewerage system in place in the city through similar joint efforts.

The governor and the district nazim also discussed the project under which 15 underpasses would be constructed from Chughulpura to Hayatabad on the G.T. Road passing through the city.

The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city and expected to help commuters greatly.

Mr Rehman said that the problems and requirements pointed out by the district nazim were, in fact, the basic necessities of the people of Peshawar.

OPPOSITION LEDER: Leader of Opposition in the NWFP Assembly Shahzada Gustasap Khan also met the governor and discussed various matters pertaining to the welfare of people.
