Armed clash leaves man dead, six wounded in Landhi

KARACHI: A man was killed and six others were wounded in an armed clash between two groups after a road accident in the Labour Square area of Landhi on Sunday evening, according to police and hospital sources.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that the clash took place after two motorbikes driven by teenagers collided. Apparently the trivial issue led to a clash when elders of two communities living in the same neighbourhood took out weapons and attacked each other, he said.

Three persons suffered critical bullet wounds and were transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced Mohammed Arif, 25, dead on arrival.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital, said the victim had received bullet wounds in his abdomen.

She said four more persons wounded in the clash were brought to the hospital and one of them, Maula Bux, 55, who had also suffered two bullet wounds in his abdomen. The other persons were identified as Saddam Aziz, 26, Abdul Rehman, 26, Adal Huzoor, 22, and Mooris Hayat, 60.

Police and Rangers personnel rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

The police detained five suspects belonging to the two communities, said the Malir SSP.
