LAHORE, Oct 30: A two-year-old girl died when a kite string slit open her throat in Shadbagh on Sunday. Aurangzeb told police he had sent his servant, Mohammad Ahmad, to fetch some grocery from a market at Chowk Na Khuda. His daughter, Tahreem, insisted to go with him.

He said his servant had his daughter sitting with him on the fuel tank of the motorcycle. The string hit her throat near Chowk Na Khuda. The baby sustained a critical injury, with profuse bleeding. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died.

Her body was returned to the family without autopsy.

Later, the area people held a protest and chanted slogans against the police and the government for what they termed their failure to enforce a ban on the kite flying.

However, a police spokesman said all efforts were being made for the implementation of the ban. He said the police had arrested 17 people and registered 26 cases against violators since the ban was imposed.

Later, Aurangzeb lodged a case against a resident, Fakhri Butt.. He told the police that the residents had seen the accused flying the kite that resulted in the death of his daughter.

A police spokesman said a murder case had been registered against the accused, and a police team dispatched for his arrest.
