ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: Armed forces are on high alert and fully prepared to thwart any aggression, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj-Gen Rashid Qureshi on Wednesday.

Wrapping up the two-day media workshop on defence reporting, he said all the preparations have been made and any misadventure from across the frontiers would be given a befitting response. Any misadventure would cost them (India) beyond their imagination, he said and added that a reciprocal response would be given in case the other side started withdrawal of its troops. “If they will move back we will follow the suit,” he said.

Referring to the Kargil incident, he said, during a short span, 10 aircraft of the enemy were shot down.

However, “the solution of the problem will have to be sought politically,” he said.

He said that no Pakistani will be handed over to India but in case of solid evidences provided against any of those indicated in the list by Indian government, he would be dealt with in accordance with the state laws. He said that according to Indian media majority of those named in the list were not in Pakistan.

Earlier, a navy officer said: “Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to thwart Indian designs and in case it was put to trial it will give befitting response.”

Answering a question, he said the Oramara naval base was fully operational and could be used in case of any contingency.

An air force officer said 96 per cent of PAF’s combat assets had been commissioned in war locations which could strike back within a three-minute notice. He said over 60 radars of various ranges had been installed at strategic positions.

He said the training institutions had been closed and personnel had been redeployed to operational units.—APP
