Almost 2 million more doses of Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Taiwan today consisting of direct purchases and a third donation from Japan, the government has said, as the island ramps up inoculations, with domestic cases well under control.

Reuters has quoted cabinet spokesperson Lo Ping-cheng as saying that the new arrivals will be 550,000 doses from AstraZeneca and 350,000 from Moderna Inc, both part of previously announced direct government purchases.

Almost one million AstraZeneca doses will also be arriving as a donation from Japan, he said, its third such gift in two months.

About 20 per cent of Taiwan's 23.5 million people have received at least one of the two-shot vaccine regimen, though fewer than one per cent are fully vaccinated.
