KARACHI: KESC not to raise power tariff

KARACHI, Oct 28: The KESC will not increase electricity tariff as the required raise due to increase in fuel prices is being picked by the federal government, a KESC spokesman said here on Friday.

He explained that furnace oil prices had been increasing, which was a pass-through cost as per the policy. But, since the government was absorbing the additional cost of fuel for power generation by the KESC and power purchase cost from the IPPs and WAPDA for the last one year, the consumer tariff had not been increased by the KESC.

Similarly, he said, the current additional cost of 22 paisa per unit as determined by the NEPRA would not be passed on to consumers of Karachi as the case was still with the ministry of water and power, which had not yet notified it. —APP
