New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, has reported 18 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 as authorities battle to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant in the state capital, Sydney, reports Reuters.

Of the new cases, 16 have either been in isolation throughout or for part of their infectious period. Two cases have spent time in the community while being infectious.
