MANSEHRA: A man was killed and another suffered critical injuries as a vehicle they travelled in fell into a deep ravine in Pattan area of Lower Kohistan district on Thursday.

Also, a boy drowned in the Indus river in Torghar area. The Pattan accident occurred as the driver lost control of his pickup vehicle due to speeding on the way to Peshawar from Gilgit-Baltistan.

A police team led by Upper Kohistan DPO Zulfiqar Jadoon shifted the injured, including driver Mohammad Shakir and Mohammad Akram, to the Pattan Civil Hospital, where the doctors declared the former dead.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Wajid, 9, drowned while taking a bath along with his father in the Indus riverin Judbah area of Torghar district. The local divers failed to find the body.

VACCINATION: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Expanded Programme on Immunisation has planned to launch a 12-day anti-measles campaign in Torghar district following the death of a girl from the contagious disease.

The drive for which the World Health Organisation and Unicef has collaborated with the EPI will begin on July 5, district health officer Dr Mohammad Taimur Shah told reporters in Judbah area on Thursday.

He said a girl lost life to measles in Gitto village and 10 children tested positive for it lately.

“We will administer anti-measles vaccine to 28,266 children aged between six months and five years in all 16 union councils of the district.

Mr Shah said all children in Gitto village had been vaccinated against the disease. He said 34 teams had been formed for vaccinating children and eight of them would be deployed in health facilities.
