Judicial reforms vital to save country from economic crisis, says minister

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said judicial reforms were imperative to save the country from economic disaster.

In a social media message, the minister said without judicial reforms, the country would not be able to recover from the economic crisis.

“My head is spinning since yesterday after the banning of TikTok and removal of President National Bank of Pakistan, to see what our courts were doing,” Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.

He was referring to the recent directive by the Sindh High Court to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend TikTok in the country up to July 8. The Islamabad High Court, on the other hand, had set aside the appointments of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Arif Usmani and chairman of its board of directors, Zubair Soomro.

The tweet by the minister further said, “The country has already suffered losses worth billions of dollars due to judicial activism.”
