Whose fault is it?

THIS refers to the report ‘University professor shot dead during ‘robbery attempt’ in Karachi’ (June 11). The director of an institute of technology in Karachi, who was killed in cold blood by a street bandit during a robbery attempt, was a renowned engineer who had done his MS from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his PhD from the University of Southern California after having done his BE in electrical engineering from the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi.

His only fault was that he had returned to serve his country and impart the knowledge he had gained abroad to his fellow countrymen. He could have easily settled in the United States like many other Pakistanis and would have been praised for sending foreign exchange to the country. But he chose to return to his homeland only to get killed by a mugger in the street. What a pity!
