Court seeks report from CIA about TikToker’s arrest

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a report from Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) about the arrest of TikToker Kashif Zameer Chaudhry in a case of alleged fraud with Turkish actor Engin Altan Duzyatan.

Justice Ali Zia Bajwa was hearing a petition of Zameer’s wife challenging the arrest of her husband.

Petitioner’s counsel Qasim Arain argued the husband of his client had signed a contract with the Turkish actor for different performances in Pakistan. However, he said, the contract had not been executed. He said the matter was a civil dispute between two parties and did not fall within the definition of cognizable offence.

The counsel argued the police unlawfully arrested the husband of the petitioner and kept him in illegal detention. He asked the court to order the police to set the petitioner’s husband at liberty.

After hearing the arguments, the judge sought a report from the police by June 21.

Racecourse police registered a case against Zameer on the complaint of Mr Engin who had alleged that the suspect had misused his status to earn illegal benefits. He also alleged that the suspect had also issued him bogus cheques against some agreements and defamed him by using his name and pictures without his permission for ulterior motives.

The Turkish actor had submitted an application online with a request to the inspector general of police for action against the TikToker who claimed to be the owner of Chaudhry Group of Companies.
