QUETTA: An accountability court on Monday jailed two former officers of the Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) for one-and-a-half years and imposed heavy fines on them in a corruption reference.
According to an investigation team of the National Accountability Bureau, PTCL’s senior revenue officer Ashfaq Khalid and cashier Pervez Zaki embezzled Rs46.152 million by receiving salaries in the name of daily-wage employees for several years.
After completing the investigation against the accused, the Balochistan NAB submitted the reference in the accountability court.
Judge Allah Dad Roshan of the accountability court, Quetta, in light of the NAB investigation and irrefutable evidence sentenced both the accused and imposed a fine of Rs19.470m on senior revenue officer Ashfaq Khalid and Rs5m on cashier Pervez Zaki.
The accused remained absconding for a long time, but later the NAB Balochistan intelligence team arrested and sent them to jail.
