LAHORE: The Covid death toll reached 10,000 after 17 more patients died of the virus in Punjab during the last 24 hours.

It is first time that Lahore which was sharing over 40 per cent of the total deaths of the virus since the pandemic hit Punjab in March last year reported no casualty.

The Covid update released on Monday said a total 4,075 patients died of the virus in Punjab.

According to the data, 589 more people tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours, taking total number to 339,662. Of them 235 were reported from Lahore alone.

It was the first time that 18 districts of the province reported less than 10 new positive cases, showing a fast decline in the infection.

Most of the districts showing low number of new cases were from south Punjab. The districts included Mianwali, Bahawalngar, Bhakkar, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Vehari, Rajanpur, Khanewal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum etc.
