LAHORE, Oct 23: City police chief DIG Tariq Saleem on Sunday dismissed inspector Ali Imran Niazi from service on charges of his ignominious conduct and involvement in criminal activities.

On Sept 8, a case was registered against the inspector on the complaint of Hina Cyprian for the abduction and murder of her father Derek Cyprian, a former federal minister.

Besides criminal proceedings against the accused, the police chief directed the discipline police SP to initiate a probe for taking a departmental action against him. The inquiry team found him guilty of crime and, subsequently, a sum of Rs6.4 million was seized from him and the car of the deceased recovered on his identification.

The police chief also gave a personal hearing to the accused in the district jail, who could not produce any solid evidence in his support. He concluded the case by terminating the inspector and directing him to deposit all official belongings with the department.

The former minister had been murdered allegedly by the inspector, together with a bank manager and other accused, for a fraud of over Rs1.5 million.

PENALIZED: The Punjab Traffic Police DIG on Sunday dismissed seven officials and suspended 15 others from service on corruption charges.

On complaints that the policemen were involved in corruption, mainly owing to Eid, DIG Altaf Qamar probed the charges and dismissed seven officers.
