GILGIT, Oct 23: The grand peace jirga constituted to defuse tension and broker peace among feuding parties continued its deliberations on the second day in Chinarbagh.

Sources said that in its third session, the jirga decided to form two committees comprising six members each.

The committees had earlier sought to know the apprehensions harboured by members of the Sunni and Shia sects regarding maintenance of peace. The sticking points were tabled before the grand jirga for discussion.

“Now the committees would discuss the points approved and endorsed by the jirga with clerics and leaders of the two sects for necessary amendments,” the sources told Dawn.

After holding final discussions with clerics, the committees would submit reports to the jirga which would be announced through mass-media in the event of a positive response.

They added that protestors had agreed to give the jirga a chance to broker peace and decided not to disrupt its proceedings through agitation.
