Teachers’ rights

THE closure of educational institutions during the pandemic has not only affected the students, but has also had a negative impact on the teachers, especially those who work in the private sector or serve as honorary teachers in government schools.

Private institutions charge full fee from the students, but many of them do not pay due salaries to the teachers. Despite the surge in the number of Covid cases and a lockdown enforced by the government, private schools called the teachers for making syllabi and delivering online lectures. They, however, forgot to give them their due compensation.

The government should treat teachers as frontline warriors after doctors and police, and administer Covid vaccine to all government and private school teachers by sending health teams to schools. Once the vaccination drive is completed, schools across the country must open at full strength. The government should also set up a system so that none of the private school may deprive its teachers of their rights.
