MANSEHRA, Oct 21: Buildings of schools and health institutions and a major part of roads have been badly damaged across the Mansehra district and huge funds are needed for their repair.

This was stated by the deputy director of the works and services department, Zard Ali Khan, while briefing journalists here on Friday.

He said that 1,100 school-buildings had been razed in the Balakot tehsil and added that the upper areas of Balakot were still inaccessible where losses could be much higher than in the lower parts of the region.

He said that other government buildings, including police stations, had also suffered damage in Balakot and an estimate for their reconstruction was under way.

Referring to hospitals, he said 33 health units had been completely destroyed in the district which included five civil dispensaries, 18 Basic Health Units, three Rural Health Centres and seven civil hospitals.

He said the partition wall of the newly constructed Moulana Ghulam Ghous Hazarvi Block in the DHQ hospital had also been damaged.

He said that hundreds of the injured quake victims had been admitted to the newly constructed nursing hostel in the DHQ hospital. He pointed out that seven buildings of judiciary, including court-rooms and residences of judges, had been destroyed.—Correspondent
