Pakistani soldier injured in firing by Afghanistan-based terrorists

BAJAUR: One security man was wounded when terrorists from across the Pak-Afghan border opened fire on a military post in the hilly region of Bajaur tribal district, said the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The incident occurred late on Friday night when terrorists from across the international border opened fire on the post in the Mamound area, the military’s media affairs wing said in a statement.

Security personnel deployed at the post quickly responded to the attack and a soldier was wounded in the exchange of fire.

The ISPR said Pakistan “has consistently been requesting Afghanistan to ensure effective border management”.

It further said: “Pakistan strongly condemns the use of Afghan soil by terrorists for activities against Pakistan.”

According to the ISPR, this was the second such incident that took place within a week.

On Wednesday, four Frontier Corps soldiers were martyred and six others injured after terrorists ambushed them during the construction of a fence along the border in the Manzakai sector in Zhob district of Balochistan.

The Foreign Office, in a statement on May 5, said that around 20 terrorists were involved in the attack and they used small arms and heavy weapons.

After that attack, the FO said, the Afghan embassy had been asked to convey Pakistan’s concerns to the relevant authorities in that country to “undertake effective measures against organised groups of terrorists operating from Afghan soil, follow mutually agreed protocols and SOPs and avoid recurrence of such incidents in future”.
