WHO donates ambulances to Balochistan

QUETTA: The World Health Organisation on Monday handed over ambulances and motorcycles to Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani for use by the provincial health department.

A delegation led by WHO representative in Pakistan Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala called on Mr Alyani at the CM secretariat. They discussed the current situation of Covid-19, health policy, improvement of human resources, issues of mutual interest including issuance of health cards.

Mr Alyani welcomed Dr Mahipala and appreciated the continued support provided by the WHO for the betterment of the public health sector in Balochistan.

They expressed concerns over the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the world, especially in India, and its serious consequences.

The chief minister informed the WHO representative about the steps taken by his government to improve the health sector and prevent the spread of coronavirus. He said the plans were being implemented for providing maximum health facilities to the people and improving the public health sector in the province.

“We have to work for the betterment of human resources and infrastructure,” he said.

The WHO country chief briefed the chief minister about the key WHO projects in Balochistan and appreciated the provincial government’s move to provide health insurance cards.

Mr Alyani thanked the WHO for donating ambulances and motorbikes to the Balochistan health department and said that the move would strengthen the health department.

Provincial minister Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa, Senator Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, Parliamentary Secretary Mir Sikandar Umrani and Health Secretary Noorul Haq Baloch were present at the meeting.
