Uplift work at KEPZ in full swing

KARACHI, Oct 19: The development work on additional 100 acres at the Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) will be completed by the end of February 2006. This was disclosed in the 80th meeting of the board of directors of the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) chaired by its chairperson Rukhsana Saleem.

According to the EPZA here on Wednesday, industries ministry’s additional secretary Syed Zaheer Ali Shah, Siemens Pakistan managing director Sohail Wajahat H. Siddiqui, Habib Bank Ltd chairman Sultan Allana and Nazim F. Haji attended the meeting.

The board was informed about new initiatives for investors, including expansion and corporatization of the KEPZ and electronic data interfaced project.

The meeting was told that the phase-II, which is the development of additional 100 acres of land at the KEPZ, had already been halfway through and rigorous efforts were underway to complete it on a fast track.

The second phase will have effluent treatment plant and an incinerator.—APP
