Wapda suffers Rs322m loss

PESHAWAR, Oct 18: Wapda suffered losses amounting to Rs322 million in the earthquake-hit areas, an official said. Chief Executive of Pesco Brig Sakhi Marjan while speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, said that electricity had been restored in all five affected districts of the NWFP.

The Pesco chief said the quake had badly damaged grid stations and distribution system of Wapda. He said that Pesco staff had been dispatched to Azad Kashmir to restore power supply in the region.

He informed that eight teams were constituted for Hazara region which repaired all grid stations, distribution lines and restored electricity supply in urban and rural areas of the quake-hit districts.

Brig Marjan said that tentative losses in the quake-ravaged areas were about Rs322 million. Giving break-up, he said that official residences and buildings of offices in Abbottabad, Mansehra and Battagram had suffered losses worth Rs55 millions.

He said that damages to electricity distribution system including equipments amounted to Rs88 million in areas of Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Kohistan and Swat districts.

He also mentioned about other damages to grid stations and civil work.

Three Pesco employees had lost their lives in earthquake, whereas 120 had received injuries in the calamity, he said. Efforts are being made for rehabilitation and assistance of the wounded employees, he said, adding that chairman Wapda would soon be distributing relief goods among the affected employees.
