NAWABSHAH, Oct 18: Teachers, employees and students of the Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering Science and Technology have demanded that the Sindh governor and the Higher Education Commission should conduct an inquiry into alleged misappropriations of university funds.

The joint action committee of the QUEST, including Prof Liaquat Tunio, president of the Teachers Association, Allah Warayo Chandio, president of the Employees Welfare Association and others observed a black day by wearing black armbands and hoisting black flag at the university building on Tuesday.

They alleged that the vice-chancellor of the university, Anwar Ahmed Junejo, was implementing wrong policies due to which education standard was deteriorating.

They said the Higher Education Commission had warned to revert status of the university to college by 2007 if the standard was not maintained.

They said the institution started as college 30 years ago and even after becoming university, the standards were not maintained.

They said that millions of rupees of university were embezzled in different heads and so far no PhD classes were started in the university.

They said that if their demand of changing the VC and conducting an inquiry into misappropriation of funds were not fulfilled, they would launch a drive for safety of the institution.
