Appellate tribunal for MTIs becomes functional

PESHAWAR: The Medical Teaching Institution Appellate Tribunal Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started its operations in the province, a notification issued here on Monday said.

The tribunal located in the Judicial Complex in Phase-7 of Hayatabad has been established after an amendment to the Medical Teaching Institutions Reforms Act, 2015, to hear cases only related to the medical teaching institutions.

Officials said all the cases in the MTI-covered hospitals and their affiliated colleges would now be heard at the MTI Appellate Tribunal.

The amendment incorporated to the MTIRA 2015 last year aimed to fast-track the cases of the employees and institutions and ensure smooth-sailing of hospitals.

Dr Babar Ali Shaukat has been appointed registrar of the tribunal.

The health department has directed all the MTIs to refer their cases to the newly-established court for the speedy trial as it was meant to mitigate grievances of the employees.

The medical teaching institutions had long been demanding establishment of separate courts for the speedy trial of the cases.
