CHINIOT: Lawyers called off strike on Saturday after the police registered a case against the executive engineer (EXEN) and sub-divisional officer (SDO) in the transformer explosion case which caused a fire and subsequent deaths of three people, including a lawyer, on April 2.

In all, six people were injured in the transformer blast at Tehsil Chowk.

The deceased included Babur Ali, of Mohallah Toheed Abad; advocate Tariq Nawab Salotra, of Chak 12-JB; Abdul Razzak, of Chak 12-JB.

The city police have added the cross version of Muhammad Azam, brother of the deceased lawyer, that EXEN Mureed Hussain and SDO Ghulam Murtaza were responsible for the explosion.

The city police added the application to the supplementary investigation of the FIR already registered against a private firm by Fesco employees in the same incident.

RAMAZAN BAZAARS: The district administration has established five Ramazan bazaars in the district where groceries will be available at subsidised and controlled prices.

Chiniot Deputy Commissioner (DC) Imran Asmat inspected the bazaars and checked the availability of flour, sugar, pulses, fruits and vegetables, and other kitchen items.

These bazaars will be supervised by revenue officers and representatives of market committees, industries, municipalities, police, and other departments.

The DC urged in charges of the bazaars to ensure quality of the items and availability of drinking water, toilets and seating arrangements for the visitors.

CASE: Seven people were held for stealing electricity on the report of Fesco subdivision No 3 SDO Murtaza Abbasi.

Those nominated in the FIRs are Nafasat Ali, of village Pabberwala; Safdar Ali, of Chak No 141 JB; Shaukat Ali, of Rajoa Sadat village; Zahoor Ahmad, of Mathrooma; Abdul Rehman, of Makkuwala village; Mohammad Imran, of Chak 139-JB; Mian Khan, of village Wallah Rai, and Najabat Ali, of Chak 141-JB.

The police have also arrested seven of them.
