From the past pages of Dawn: 1971: Fifty years ago: Infiltrators driven out

DACCA: It is officially stated in Dacca that miscreants and armed infiltrators have been driven out of Sylhet, Rangpur, Rajshahi and the adjoining areas and the Army is in full control of the entire region. It has been further stated that civilian life did not suffer any damage... . The operations were carried out with help of the Pakistan Air Force.

[Meanwhile as reported by agencies in D.I. Khan,] Maulana Mufti Mahmood, General Secretary of the Jamiatul Ulema-i-Islam (Hazarvi Group), has urged the Government to sever diplomatic relations with India in view of infiltration by armed Indians into East Pakistan. ...Mufti Mahmood recounted various “hostile steps” taken by India and termed them as “naked aggression” against Pakistan.

[Agencies also add from Islamabad,] In view of the growing pressure of public opinion the Pakistan Government may be compelled to impose some restrictions on foreign airlines overflying Pakistan ... to and from India, it was reported here today [April 7]. It may be pointed out that so far Pakistan has not taken any retaliatory measures against the Indian ban ... [T]he Indian Government has banned overflights of Pakistani planes across her territory and also forbidden foreign airlines overflying her territory on inter-Wing flights.
