WORKSHOP: Incidents of violence against women indicate that Pakistan in general and Sindh in particular are not safe for women who make 51 per cent of the nation.
This was the consensus of the speakers at a workshop with the theme of “the role of media and violence against women”, held under the aegis of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and World Church Service here on Sunday.
They further observed that the increased coverage to human rights violations especially the incidents of violence against women indicate media’s quick response to the alarming state of affairs.
They presented some case studies in which investigating officials remained harsh and hostile towards the victims, rather than facilitating them in accessing the justice.
Akhtar Baloch, Paryal Mari, Badar Soomro and Mazhar Leghari spoke on the occasion.
