SAHIWAL, Oct 16: The potable water being supplied to residents of Scheme No 2 in Farid Town from the water supply tank is containing germs and insects.
Dwellers have stopped taking the harmful water and strongly protested against the municipal committee staff and officers for showing slackness in cleaning water tanks regularly.
Those who can afford are installing their own pumps for hygienic drinking water supply in their houses.
The water supply from the overhead reservoir had been stopped some four weeks ago due to reasons best known to the acting municipal committee nazim, and now the dirty water is being supplied to the people.
INJURED: Four armed robbers injured a truck driver on resistance besides looting him and the two motorcyclists at a picket on Chichawatni-Burewala Road near Chak 171/9-L on Sunday.
Reports said that Mustafa and his brother Ghaffar were going on their way by motorcycle when bandits stopped them. Later, armed bandits deprived them of their motorcycle and Rs74,000 in cash. Before fleeing, the outlaws tied both the brothers with a tree.
A truck (LRJ-8750) was signalled to stop by armed robbers, but driver Abid Ali pushed up the speed instead. At this, the outlaws got the tyres punctured with bullet shots. For offering resistance, outlaws shot at and injured the driver and escaped after depriving him of cash. In both the strikes, the robbers looted at least Rs200,000 in cash.
Ghaziabad police have registered a case.
STOLEN: Unknown thieves on Saturday night disappeared after cutting electricity wire from poles and loading it on a pickup.
The darkness fell on Kaurey Shah Zereen, Kot Deeva Mal and Harbera villages after the suspension of power supply. After the passage of some 36 hours, the Mepco authorities could not restore the electricity supply.
On the report of the Mepco assistant manager, Noorshah police have instituted a case against unknown thieves.
