KARACHI: A senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan said on Tuesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led federal government had not taken any meaningful steps to address grievances of urban Sindh.

“We have kept all our promises made to the federal government, but despite all positive steps no effective measures have been taken from the other side,” senior MQM-P leader Amir Khan told a press conference at Nishtar Park.

Senior party leadership visited the park, where the MQM-P was going to hold a power show on March 25 to mark its 37th foundation day. The original date of the event was March 18, but the party had postponed it due to “unavoidable circumstances”.

Mr Khan said that three years had passed but Karachi had not witnessed any real change, as schools and hospitals were in shambles while the whole city had been facing water shortages.

He said that Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh had been facing similar situation since long. The “injustices” being meted out to Karachi and its over 30 million people were not a secret, he added.

“The urban parts of Sindh are being deliberately ignored and destroyed,” he claimed.

He demanded that a public university be established in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas forthwith.

About Thursday’s event, Mr Khan said that the MQM-P would celebrate its 37th foundation day tomorrow by organising a public meeting that would “break all previous records”.

He asked the people to participate in maximum numbers to make the event successful. He said the MQM-P would continue to play its role for the solidarity and integrity of Pakistan.
