PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Peoples party has rejected the government’s decision to impose additional surcharge on electricity consumers and feared that the increase in power tariff would lead to unprecedented price hike.

PPP provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan in a statement here on Saturday said the power consumers were already facing multiple problems due to increase in the prices of essential daily use commodities.

He said the government had overburdened the power consumers with an additional surcharge of Rs150 billion.

The PPP leader said the rates of petroleum products, medicines, gas and power were increased frequently which led to increase in the prices of daily use items.

Mr Humayun said Prime Minister Imran Khan was only focused on criticising the opposition parties and had no concern about welfare of the poverty-hit people.

Mr Humayun said PPP would soon start protest demonstrations against price hike and mobilise the people to oust the ‘incompetent’ government.
