DACCA: A commission of inquiry has been instituted to go into the circumstances which led to the calling of the Army in aid of civil power in various parts of East Pakistan between March 2 and March 9, according to a special Order issued by Martial Law Administrator, Zone “B” in Dacca today [March 17].

The commission will be headed by a Judge of the High Court of East Pakistan, who is to be nominated by the Chief Justice. The commission will consist of four members drawn from Pakistan Army, Civil Service of Pakistan, Police Service of Pakistan and East Pakistan Rifles. The commission will submit its report and finding to the Martial Law Administrator Zone “B”. — Correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by our correspondent in Dacca,] After his second round of talks with President Yahya Khan here this morning [March 17], the Awami League chief, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said discussions would continue. He said he would meet the president again. Today’s meeting lasted about one hour as compared to Tuesday’s [March 16] two-and-a-half-hour talks. While the Sheikh said discussions would continue with the president, he also emphasised that “our movement will continue till our goals are achieved.”

Sheikh Mujib said they were discussing the political situation “which means I am definitely talking about my demands”. His four demands announced at his public meeting on March 7 include withdrawal of Martial Law and transfer of power to the representatives of the people.
