Sikh body takes relief measures

LAHORE, Oct 12: The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, expressing sympathy with the quake victims, has announced formation of two teams to undertake relief work in Muzaffarabad and Batgram.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the committee decided that the teams would be equipped with tents, blankets, eatables and medicines, along with other essential items. A group of doctors would also accompany the teams, said a press release.

A sum of Rs1 million would be spent on setting up eight relief camps in the affected areas to provide lodging facilities to the victims.

In addition to this, the body announced financial aid for the relatives of Sikh and Hindu victims, offering Rs100,000 each for the heirs of those killed in the tragedy, Rs 50,000 for those critically injured, and Rs25,000 for those who suffered minor injuries.

It appealed to the Sikh community across the world to come forward to help the quake victims in accordance with the teachings of Baba Guru Nanak.

Cash donations in this regard might be deposited through PSGPC account No17960-9, HBL, Civil Lines branch, Lahore, it said. The donations might also be sent to Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore, (near Lahore Fort), it added. —APP
