PESHAWAR, Oct 12: The massive earthquake that caused devastation in the northern parts of the NWFP also damaged the infrastructure of power supply worth millions of rupees.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, about 11,000 electricity metres, 125 transformers, 55-km long high tension lines and 45-km long LT Lines of Rs80 millions were damaged so far. Whereas the total loss suffered by Wapda in the quake-hit areas of the NWFP is more than Rs242 million.
Pesco Chief Executive Brig Sakhi Marjan issued special instructions to the quarters concerned for early restoration of power supply in the affected areas. A task force had been constituted which is supervising work in these areas.
Eight rescue teams had been working for repairing of the damaged installations of Pesco in Balakot, Batal and other areas.
Necessary equipment and material had been shifted from Sukkur, Lahore and Faisalabad. Power supply had been restored in different parts of Abbotabad and Mansehra districts while experts hoped that power supply would be restored in the Batal areas soon.—APP
