Cleaning of nullahs begins

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Sunday started cleaning natural drains in F-6 and F-7.

A CDA official said over a dozen streams flowed from Margalla Hills but with the passage of time all of them have turned into filthy nullahs mainly due to mismanagement and establishment of slums on their banks.

The slum dwellers in many areas discharge sewage and garbage into these nullahs.

A statement issued by the CDA said heavy machinery was being deployed to clean the drains. Moreover, fences will be installed on the banks so that garbage and sewage cannot enter the drains.

“Action will be taken against those dumping garbage and debris into the drains. Citizens dump their garbage in the natural drains near slums.”

The CDA said a wetland was being set up in F-11 to treat sewage coming from drains near Golra and discharge the treated water back into drains.
