KARACHI, Oct 11: Karachi bowlers Misbah Khan and Anwar Ali shared the limelight on the opening day of the Inter-regional under-19 National cricket championship with sterling performances in the one-day matches on Tuesday.

Off-spinner Misbah claimed six for 12 in a devastating nine-over spell to help Karachi Urban rout Peshawar by six wickets in their Pool ‘B’ fixture at the Gymkhana Ground in Peshawar.

Karachi Harbour’s speedster Anwar Ali in a hostile burst grabbed five wickets for just nine runs in five overs as Hyderabad crashed to 57 all out in 23.2 overs in the Pool ‘A’ match at Niaz Stadium. The visitors ran out comfortable winners by 10 wickets.

In contrast, Faisalabad pulled off a sensational one-wicket victory over Multan in a Pool ‘A’ tie at the Bohranwali Ground. The hosts’ hero was Mohammad Khan Bhatti who hammered nine fours and two sixes in making 86 off 108 balls.

Islamabad, meanwhile, won a low-scoring Pool ‘B’ game against Quetta by eight wickets at Mirpur Stadium in quake-stricken Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The three-day matches between these same teams will start from Thursday.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Abbottabad made an excellent start with a 35-run victory against Lahore Ravi at Country Club in Muridke.

Set to score 143 to win in the allotted 45 overs, Lahore Ravi were bowled out for 107 in 37.3 overs, including 40 extra runs.

Meanwhile, belligerent centuries by Ali Khan and Arsalan Anwar helped Sialkot to a thumping 87-run win over Rawalpindi at Saga Ground in Sialkot.

Opener Ali Khan scored a 120-ball 137 with the aid of 13 fours and four sixes while Arsalan struck an unbeaten 105 off 113 deliveries as the pair added 219 for the third wicket. Arsalan hit 13 fours and one six as Sialkot piled up 292 for five.

Rawalpindi, in reply, were dismissed for 205 in 40.5 overs despite opener Mohammad Ibrahim contributing 70 off 81 balls, including nine boundaries.
