Relief goods sent to quake-hit areas

HYDERABAD, Oct 11: Collection of foodstuff, drugs and other material continued at camps set up by different parties and Sindh government departments to help the earthquake-affected people in the NWFP and Azad Kashmir.

The Sindh health department sent 16 vehicles loaded with different items to the Masroor Base in Karachi on Tuesday under the supervision of the DG health Services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi.

The goods which were collected by the health officials included huge quantity of shrouds, medicines including painkillers, antibiotics and other items.

The goods were collected by each executive district officer (EDO) health in response to the call of Mr Jatoi on Monday.

An amount of Rs300,000 had also been collected by the health officials which would be used for purchase of other necessary items.

The medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital Hyderabad, Dr Khalid Qureshi, was also reported to have donated a big quantity of medicines.

A camp has been established in the hospital for collection of relief goods.

People continued to donate relief goods for earthquake stricken people of the country.

Workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, policemen, army officials, Rangers and Jamaat-i-Islami activists were collecting donations in cash and kind.

Goods are being packed before they were despatched to the upcountry.

Government officials including civic bodies will also donate their one-day salary in the President’s Relief Fund.

Our Jacobabad correspondent adds: Camps to collect donations for earthquake victims were set up at the DCO chowk and near Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro Park on Tuesday.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Shahbaz Rangers and PTCL set up relief camps where donations in form of goods, material and cash were being collected for quake-hit people of the country.

SU: The Sindh University teachers, officers and employees have donated Rs0.533 million in the president’s Relief Fund for the help of the earthquake victim.
