KARAK: Long dry spell has been affecting the standing crops of gram and wheat in rain-fed areas and resulting in rise in various diseases among people of the district.

Farmers Saeedur Rehman, Sultan Jan, Raees Khan, Khalid Usman and Attaullah told a meeting here on Sunday that gram was the cash crop of Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil.

They said the area farmers largely depended on the production of gram, but the crop had started drying up due to lack of rains. They said that in case of no rains till end of this month the gram produce would be badly affected. They said that wheat crop in the district also needed timely rain to survive.

The farmers claimed that the long dry spell had also resulted in rise in various diseases like dry cough and throat infection among the people.

Lodging the FIR of the incident in Takht-i-Nusrati police station, Asif Nawaz and Akhtar Zaman told the police that they were coming to the Indus Highway from Gardi Banda on Saturday night when four masked armed men got off their car near them and took away cash and mobile phones from them at gunpoint.

Later, they left the scene in their car. Police registered an FIR of the incident and have started investigations.

Party’s district president Mohammad Zahoor and information secretary Abdush Shah Khan made this announcement while addressing their workers here on Sunday. They said that their party believed in serving the masses selflessly.

They resolved to discourage the politics of money in the district. They asked the people to support JI candidates, adding that the party would contest the elections on all seats of the local bodies.
