Safer Roads campaign launched
ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman on Monday inaugurated the ‘Safer Roads’ campaign to ensure implementation of traffic rules.
The campaign was inaugurated at Islamabad Traffic Police (Headquarters).
SSP Farrukh Rasheed briefed the IGP about steps being taken to make the drive a success.
Mr Rehman said the campaign would contribute to saving the lives of road users, adding, cameras would monitor the speed of vehicles while motorists had been advised to wear seatbelts while driving.
Action will be taken against vehicles with tinted glass windows and non-pattern number plates, he said, adding, squads of ITP will be deputed on main roads and avenues of the capital, to educate road users about the risks the traffic rules violation would entail.
Big screens will be installed at major entry points of the capital to educate citizens about traffic rules. Banners will be displayed in various areas, seeking road users’ cooperation for success of the campaign.
The ongoing education programmes of ITP will be further improved, following this campaign. Social media, ITP FM Radio 92.4 will be used for effective advertisement and promotion of the campaign.
