From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1946: Seventy-five years ago: Iqbal’s son joins League

MR. Aftab Iqbal, Barrister-at-Law, son of the late Allama Iqbal, has joined the Muslim League. ...Mr. Aftab Iqbal says: “So far I have avoided joining any political organisation as I believe that politics in Bengal and Punjab particularly is a dirty game”.

Referring to the presence of men of money and property in the Muslim League, he says: “To be absolutely frank, I have always disliked this element in the Muslim League, but, I feel that the time has now come when the Musalmans of the Punjab, particularly, and those of India generally, must unreservedly flock to the Muslim League regardless of the presence of that element. Since I feel that the establishment of a separate Muslim State is the only solution of India’s political problem, and that the Muslim League demand is just, I think all Muslims must support the League, whatever elements it may be composed of at present. When the goal is achieved we shall have to purge it of all that is undesirable and make it essentially an organisation whose business will be to work for moral, social and economic welfare for the masses alone.”
