KDA DG asked to tell court when 1,406 pensioners will receive dues

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the director general of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) to submit a timeline along with a specific date for the payment of remaining post-retirement dues to 1,406 employees.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar passed this direction while hearing a set of petitions filed by former KDA employees for their post-retirement dues.

On Tuesday, the official assignee of Sindh High Court Dr Muhammad Waseem filed a reference, whereas the member finance, KDA, Taufeeq Soomro, also submitted a progress report.

Advocate Khursheed Javed filed a memo of appearance for the KDA, which was taken on record.

The director general of KDA, Nasir Abbas Soomro, appeared before the bench and submitted that 10 per cent pensionary benefit had already been paid to 1,406 employees.

His statement was also admitted by the counsel for the petitioners.

For the remaining payment, the DG submitted that he would file a timeline along with a specific date for the payment of remainder.

The bench directed DG Soomro to file the same and thereafter further proceedings would be conducted.

In the meanwhile, the KDA Officers Association filed miscellaneous applications.

The bench issued notice to the petitioners on the applications and adjourned the hearing till Jan 27 when the DG KDA and its member finance were directed to be in attendance.

Education department promotions

During the hearing of another case before the same bench, the provincial secretary of colleges, college education department, Khalid Hyder Shah, submitted a compliance report along with decision of the cabinet meeting.

He undertook that the directors physical education (DPO)/lecturers/librarians in Grade-17 will be promoted in Grade-18 and the entire exercise shall be completed within 15 days.
