Martyred constable laid to rest

GUJAR KHAN: The body of martyred police constable Navid Asghar was laid to rest in his native village Nattha Chattar in the jurisdiction of Jatli police station on Tuesday.

His funeral prayers were offered in the Police Lines Headquarters, Rawalpindi, which was attended by a large number of police personnel.

Regional Police Officer Imran Ahmer, City Police Officer Ahsan Younis along with other senior police and military officers were also present. Asghar was laid to rest in his native village as per police protocol where a second funeral took place, attended by people from the surrounding areas.

The martyr leaves behind a widow, two daughters and a son.

The police constable embraced martyrdom on Monday evening when a gang of drug peddlers opened fire on police patrol in Sandal village in the jurisdiction of Gujar Khan police station. One of the alleged drug peddlers was also killed in the encounter.

The RPO and CPO in a joint statement said Navid Asghar was the pride of the police department and his sacrifice will long be remembered.

They said drug peddlers were spoiling the young generation and the police would not tolerate them at any cost and take stern action against them.

Mr Younis said further investigations were underway and the accomplice of the accused suspect would be arrested soon.
