Blood samples sent for DNA test in child murder case

LOWER DIR: Judicial magistrate Aziz Ahmed on Wednesday obtained blood samples of 46 suspects for DNA test in the murder case of a two-year-old child, Hareem Shah.

The samples were sent to KMC Peshawar. Talking to journalists, a police official said the DNA tests of the suspects would help resolve the case. The minor was found dead on a nearby hill in Sharab Kohi area of Adenzai on Oct 28 last year, triggering protests by civil society, local traders and political activists.

MCH UNIT: International NGO Doctors without Borders has handed over control of the maternal and child health unit (MCH) in the District Headquarters Hospital, Timergara, to the health department after 11 years.

After announcing that it would gradually relieve itself of the responsibility of various departments in Nov 2019, the INGO had given control of the emergency room and the newborn unit in the hospital in March and August 2020, respectively, to the health department.

“The handover process will be complete on January 31 with the health department taking charge of the support services such as the laundry, blood bank, sterilisation, the waste management and energy zones,” MSF deputy project coordinator Ijaz Zarin told reporters.
