Court extends physical remand of five ex-ATS officials

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court of Islamabad on Wednesday extended the physical remand of the five accused in connection with Osama Satti murder case.

ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan asked the police to produce the five officials of Islamabad’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), who have been dismissed from service, before the court again on Jan 18.

The investigating officer informed the court that the accused have confessed to having taken the life an innocent citizen.

He, however, said that their statement under section 342 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC) will be recorded before the magistrate.

He requested the court to extend the physical remand since the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted to probe the crime requires further time to conclude the investigation.

As per the FIR registered in the case by Satti’s father, his son Osama had a quarrel with officials of the capital police a day earlier who had threatened him with dire consequences.

On Jan 2, at around 2am, Osama had gone to drop his friend in H-11. When he was returning, the police officials intercepted his vehicle, the FIR said, adding that they then fired at him from all sides, which resulted in his death.
