KARACHI, Oct 7: A US national of Pakistani origin reportedly opened fire at his former wife and brother-in-law in a bid to snatch his son from them in Defence on Friday morning.

However, no one was hurt in the incident except bruises suffered by the child and his mother, police said.

Child’s mother Fizza Rizvi told Dawn that a case regarding the custody of her son was already in the Sindh High Court.

On Friday morning, she said, she came out of her home to take her son to the school when her former husband Ghulam Muhammad Noori pulled up in his car along with his four accomplices. He grabbed the child and attempted to escape when Fizza Rizvi cling to the car and raised alarm. Her brother rushed out of the house and managed to take the child back. Both of them along with the child ran into the house.

Ghulam Noori and his accomplices fired several shots at them. However, none of them was wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and nabbed Noori. His accomplices had already escaped.

Fizza Rizvi said that if her former husband got hold of the child, he would go straight to the US consulate and take first flight to the US.

TPO Clifton said that the complainant submitted an application at the Darakshan police station about the incident, as they did not want to lodge an FIR stating that the case was already in the court.

Accused Ghulam Mohammad Noori was released by the police on the surety produced by his lawyer. However, he could not explain his presence at the house of her former wife, the TPO added.

SUICIDE: A 13-year-old girl reportedly committed suicide in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday.

Police said that the body of Shazia was found hanging in the servant quarters of a bungalow in Block-4. Shazia was working as housemaid at the house of Dr Abdul Jabbar Shaikh.

Police shifted the body to JPMC for post-mortem.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a gang of motorcycle snatchers and recovered five motorcycles from their possession.

According to the SHO Preedy police station, all the five members of a have confessed snatching of motorcycles from Kharadar, Preedy and Mithadar.

Initially, one suspect was held that led to the arrest of remaining suspects. They have been identified as Akram, Rizwan, Amanullah, Shakil and Irshad.
