Narcotics trafficker convicted

PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Additional district and sessions judge Rajab Ali Khan on Thursday convicted a person of drug trafficking and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000.

The court observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Imtiaz Shah.

The accused, resident of Dara Adamkhel, was arrested by officials of police station Bhadabher, on Jan 13, 2005, near Jhangali checkpoint while he was travelling in a passenger bus.

The police claimed that the man carrying a black bag aroused their suspicion. The police found 12kg of charas in the bag. He was charged under section 9 of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act, 1997.

The accused claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case.

He stated that he had an altercation with the police following which false FIR was registered against him.

The prosecution claimed that he was caught red-handed and the contraband was recovered from his custody.
