Bahawalpur Oct 5: District returning officer Chaudhry Muhammad Sadiq has warned PML-supported candidate Tariq Cheema for the district nazim slot to abide by the election code of ethics.
The warning was issued on the complaints of rival candidate Sahibzada Umer Daud Abbasi.
Meanwhile, all arrangements for the polling of the third phase of local elections have been completed by the election commission.
At least 136 candidates will contest for a district nazim seat, six tehsil nazim seats, 35 reserve seats for women and seven each seats for peasants and workers. In all, 1,391 voters will cast their votes.
A total of 36 polling booths have been set up in all the six polling stations in the district. Two polling stations have been set up in S.E College and Government Post-Graduate College, Baghdad Road, in Bahawalpur. While one each polling station has been established in all the four tehsil headquarters — Hasilpur, Yazman, Khairpur Tamewali and Ahmedpur East.
The polling stations are located at the Government College, Hasilpur; the Government College, Yazman; the Government Higher Secondary School, Khairpur; and Sadiq Abbas College, Dera Nawab Sahib, Ahmedpur East.
ARRESTED: Hasilpur police on Wednesday arrested 11 policemen for negligence of their duties and were lodged in the lock-up.
Earlier on Tuesday, a case was registered against the accused policemen from whose custody three dangerous under-trial prisoners escaped. The prisoners were identified as Sultan alias Billoo of Sheikhupura, Mushtaq Ahmed of Basti Chottoo, Hasilpur, and Muhammad Saleem of Kali Basti of Bahawalnagar.
The arrested policemen included constables Abdul Ghaffar, Irshad Ahmed, Pir Baksh, Muhammad Arif, Sikandar Hayat, Abbas Ali, Sajjad Ahmed, Munir Ahmed and Saeed Ahmed.
Police sources said that raids were being conducted to re-arrest the three under-trial prisoners.
Meanwhile, goldsmith Irshad Husain of Chak 23, Khairpur Tamewali, was allegedly axed to death by unidentified accused on Tuesday night.
Khairpur police have registered a case.
