PESHAWAR, Oct 4: Some additional posts will be created in the Governor’s secretariat for the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas to improve its working. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman at the Governor’s House on Tuesday.

The governor asked the NWFP chief secretary to work out a plan to address financial and legal matters related to the secretariat. He said it had been observed that since the federal and provincial rules of business had not been changed so far, it might lead to financial and legal complications at some stage.

It was decided that all the important files on policy issues would be put up before the governor through the chief secretary.

The chief secretary was directed to work out a mechanism for checks and balances in Fata affairs to ensure proper utilization of funds and avoid financial and legal complications.

The role of finance secretary and financial adviser to the governor would be revived and certain additional posts would be created in the secretariat to strengthen its working, it was decided.

Major development projects with sizable foreign aid components could also be referred to the provincial additional chief secretary, who represented Fata at the federal level, it was decided.

COMPENSATION: Talking to relatives of three officials who were gunned down in Miramshah Bazaar recently, the governor assured them that they would be provided jobs and assistance by the government and the local administration.

He said the assailants would be given exemplary punishment.

The governor handed over a cheque of Rs1 million to the son of late tehsildar Iftikhar Ahmad, Rs300,000 to the brother of political moharrar Aleem Roz and Rs200,000 to the father of khassadar Dil Mohammad, besides commendation certificates recognizing their services.
