LAHORE, Oct 4: The Pakistan State Oil owed over Rs37 million land rent to the railways till Aug 5 this year, it is learnt. Sources told Dawn on Tuesday that the PSO owed over Rs42.78 million land rent to the railways till June 30. The PSO deducted over Rs5.64 million from the sum it owed to the railways on account of receivables and the arrears now stood at over Rs37 million.
The Pakistan Railways had received Rs1,130,767 as rent for its 6,672,184.5 square feet land leased to the PSO from Jan 1, 1982, to June 30 this year.
Sources said the original value of the land, leased out at 28 places to the PSO all over the country, was Rs221,622,865. The PSO owed Rs42,785,140 to the railways for the period.
According to details, the land in square feet leased out to the PSO in Sukkur was 58,000 for Rs24 per sq ft, in Sahiwal 162,000 for Rs129, in Vehari 25,651 and 36,250 for Rs275, in Chaklala 7,500 and 15,150 for Rs478, in Sargodha 29,052 for Rs624, Badami Bagh 14,970.5 for Rs356 and 23,426 for Rs119, in Kot Lakhpat 50,000 and 50,349 for Rs400.
In Faisalabad 108,777 and 77,215 for Rs294, in Gujranwala 60,963 for Rs129, in Quetta 2,107, 34,302 and 11,180 for Rs550, in Hyderabad 46,404 for Rs1,111, in Peshawar 15,815, 10,214 and 41,958 for Rs184, Peshawar (Kund) 22,000 for Rs73, NPP (Akora) 90,000 for Rs92.
The per square foot rate of 132,2901 sq ft land in Mehmoodkot and 4,356,000 in Pipri (PMY) had not been determined.
The PSO has yet to pay even a rupee as rent to the railways for 4,561,990 sq ft land at four cities.
Measuring 36,250 sq ft, the original value of the PR land in Vehari was Rs9,986,250 and it had been leased out at a rate of Rs275 per sq ft. The Faisalabad land measured 108,777 sq ft, its value was Rs13,096,787 and rented out for Rs294 per sq ft. The Gujranwala land, measuring 60,963 per sq ft, was valued at Rs7,837,307 and rented out for Rs129 per sq ft. The value and rent rate of the 4,356,000 sq ft land in Pipri could not be determined, however, a sum of Rs9,650 rent would be paid to the railways.
