Case against 2,500 PML-N workers for ‘flouting’ SOPs

FAISALABAD: Sargodha Road police on Sunday booked 2,500 people who attended the PML-N workers convention held here on Friday last for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The case against PML-N workers was registered on the complaint of police Constable Hasnain, who was on security duty at the event.

In his application, the constable submitted that the PML-N event organised in the Crescent Ground on Friday last was attended by 2,000-2,500 people. He said the participants violated the Covid-19 SOPs which was against the direction of the Punjab government.

The convention was addressed by the party’s senior leadership, including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah and others. However, no one was nominated in the case.

The case against unidentified participants was registered under sections 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 17-5(a) of the Punjab Infectious Diseases (Prevention and Control) Ordinance 2020.
